Bus crushes security guard in Barishal; driver held

A security guard of a textile mill was killed when a bus crushed him on Barishal-Patuakhali highway on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Shah Alam, 50, a worker of Sonargaon Textile Mill in Barishal, hailed from Bakerganj upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station, Md Nurul Islam said a Kuakata-bound bus of Eagle Paribahan ran over Shah Alam while he was crossing the highway in front of his workplace in the morning, leaving him injured critically.

He was rushed to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Agitated at the death of Shah Alam, workers of the textile mill blocked Barishal-Patuakhali highway for an hour in the morning; a local media reported quoting the OC.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident. But he was arrested later from Lebukhali area, the OC said.
