Commercial duck rearing on the rise in Bogra

 BOGRA, Mar 25: Many people in the district have attained financial solvency by rearing ducks on commercial basis.

A good number of rearers of Dupchanchia, Nandigram, Sherpur, Adamdigghi, Kahaloo, Shibganj, Sonatola, Sariakandi and Gabtoly upazilas said duck rearing is profitable and they are earning a handsome profit from it.

Arun Kumar said he started duck rearing borrowing Tk 40,000 from one of his relatives. "After a year, I became able to return the money", he added.

Each two-kg weight duck is being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 350, while a rear usually spends Tk 200 to Tk 220 to raise a duck, said wholesaler Soliman Hossain of Sadar upazila.

Deputy director of the district livestock department Shafiuzzaman said, "We encourage people to come forward to rear ducks for more profit. Commercial duck raising is a good source of income."
