A former UP member was killed as a pick-up hit him in Sonahat land port area in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Majid, 50, a former member of Sonahat Union Parishad, hailing from Banurkuti village under the union.
Locals said the rod-laden pick-up knocked Majid down around 11 am while he was walking along the Bhurungamari-Sonahat road, leaving him severely injured.
He was taken to Bhurungamari Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Officer-in-charge of Bhurungamari Police Station Imtiaz Kabir said locals caught the pick-up driver and handed him over to police, reports UNB.
