Govt to take steps for saving Boral River from encroaching, pollution

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan has said that the government will take all necessary measures to save Boral River from the encroachers and pollution.

Addressing a rally on Saturday as chief guest at Upazila Chattar of Chatmohar in Pabna, the minister said switch gate and dam will be removed after proper inspection, reports UNB.

"The people, who occupy rivers, are the Razakars of this era. Earlier, there were 24,000 kilometres water route in the country and now it has turned to only 3,000 kilometres due to the previous government's negligence and carelessness," he said.

However, fresh 1,400 kilometres water route has been dredged during the regime of the incumbent government," he added.

Lawmaker Abdul Kuddus, National River Protection Commission(NRPC) chairman Dr Mozibur Rahman Hawladar and Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan(Bapa) General Secretary Dr Abdul Matin were also present at the programme.
