Hospitals, health complexes face shortage of dengue kits

SIRAJGANJ, Aug 19: With the rise in the number of dengue patients across the districts of Rajshahi division, Sadar hospitals and upazila health complexes are facing acute crisis of dengue kits.

Civil Surgeon of Bogura Dr Gosul Azim Chowdhury said more than 17 patients have been infected with dengue virus in the last 24 hours.

He said most of the upazila health complexes do not have pathology labs, which puts dengue patients in more trouble.

Only four of the 12 upazila health complexes have pathological test facilities. The 500-bed Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital is now handling over 1,200 patients, 45 of them are dengue patients.

In Pabna General Hospital, some 45 dengue patients are taking treatment. Some nine dengue patients were admitted here in the last 24 hours

Civil Surgeon Dr Zahid Nazrul Choudhury of Chapainawabganj said some 10 people have been infected with dengue in the last 24 hours. Some 40 are taking treatment across the district.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Md Zahidul Islam of Siraganj district said some 17 people were infected with dengue in the last 24 hours. Some 58 are taking treatment at different hospitals. A total 431 people have already affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Shams Uddin of Joypurhat said dengue has infected one in the last 24 hours. Some five more are taking treatment across the district. A total 59 people here have already affected with the fever.

If the number of patients continues to rise, it will be a huge challenge for the doctors and nurses, he added.

Our Correspondent from Cumilla adds: The number of dengue patients is constantly increasing in the district.

The number of dengue patients here stands at about 900. On average, about 40 patients are being admitted to the health clinics per day including the Cumilla Medical College and Hospital.

Until Monday noon, 39 dengue patients were admitted to the hospitals in the last 24 hours, said Cumilla District Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mujibur Rahman.

So far 568 dengue patients have returned home after taking treatment at CMCH and 67 are still undergoing treatment there, he added.

CMCH sources said patients who have been suffering from dengue started receiving treatment at CMCH from July 22.

On July 23, the number of dengue patients in Cumilla was four.

On July 27, the number rose to 27. Then the number of patients started to increase from July 28.

Now, on average, about 40 dengue patients are being admitted per day to the government-private hospitals across the district.

Director of CMCH Dr Swapan Kumar Adhikari said the Male Ward of Medicine has become a dengue corner here. Dengue patients are being treated separately there.

Cumilla District Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mujibur Rahman said so far 855 patients have been admitted to public-private hospitals in the district due to dengue.

At present, 123 patients are admitted to various hospitals in the district including CMCH.
