A tribunal in Manikganj on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment in an abduction case.
The convict, Majnu Pramanik, son of Shamsul Pramanik of Pangsha upazila in Rajbari district, was tried in absentia.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000 and he will have to suffer six months more in jail if he cannot pay the fine.
According to the prosecution, Majnu abducted a schoolgirl, daughter of Abdul Haq Mollah of Ghior upazila on April 29, 2010.
A case was filed in this connection on May 5, 2010.
Police rescued the girl and submitted a chargesheet against the convict on July 18, 2010, UNB reported.
After examining records and witnesses, Manikganj Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohamamd Ali Hossain handed down the verdict.
