A new mother’s alleged death due to ‘negligence of physicians’ sparked tension at a private hospital in Rajshashi on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Sultana Begum, 30, wife of Zahurul Islam of Kashiadanga in the city.

Zahurul Islam said his wife was admitted to Lakshmipur General Hospital in the city with labour pain on April 17 where she gave birth to a baby boy through caesarean section under Gynaecologist Dr Monwara Begum of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on the following day.

Since giving birth to the baby, Sultana’s condition had been deteriorating, UNB reported quoting Zahurul.

Later on Thursday morning when Sultana died, Zahurul claimed that his wife lost her life due to negligence of the doctors.

But Dr Monwara Begum, when contacted, said excessive bleeding led to the woman’s death.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the patient protested in front of the hospital blaming the hospital authorities for negligence of duty.

Police rushed there on information and brought the situation under control.
