One killed in knife attack over football match in Brahmanbaria

A man was killed and five others were injured in a knife attack after the final match of a football tournament in Brahmanbaria on Friday evening.

According to UNB, the deceased was identified as Yakub, 30, a resident of Narshingshar village in Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila.

During the celebration after the final match between two teams of Narshingshar village, members and supporters of both teams got into an altercation with them, which escalated into a knife fight.

Six people -- including Yakub, Juel, Kamal, Arman -- were injured in the knife attack.

Yakub was declared dead after he was taken to the district hospital.

Mohammad Aslam Hossain, duty officer at Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station, said they have initiated legal actions against those involved in the incident.

“Additional police forces have been deployed in the area,” he added.
