A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police on Kushtia-Jhenidah highway in Mahishdanga area under Islamic University Police Station on Thursday.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Md Ratan Sheikh, officer-in-charge of the Islamic University Police Station, said on secret information that a gang of robber was preparing for committing robbery, a team of police conducted a drive around 3:30am.
Sensing presence of police, the robber gang opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, reports UNB.
After 30 minutes of gunfight, police rescued the robber, who was lying with bullet injuries on the spot. Later, the injured was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police also recovered a pistol and a gun from the spot.
