Sirajganj road crash leaves two dead

Two people were killed and four others wounded early Sunday after a hit-and-run incident in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.

The accident took place around 7:00am on the highway in Sayedabad area on the western side of Bangabandhu Bridge, said Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station OC Syed Shahid Alam.

The dead have been identified as Porabari Village residents Jahangir Hossain, 30, and Shameem, 32.

The injured are now undergoing treatment at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital for treatment. Three have been identified as Shahadat, 40, Moni, 30, and Babu, all of whom also hail from Porabari, reports bdnews24.

The victims are employed at the Sirajganj Combined Cycle Power Station and were waiting in the Sayedabad area for a rickshaw van home, said OC Shahid Alam.

“A recklessly-driven pickup van headed from Dhaka to the north carrying poultry ran them over and then sped off. Jahangir and Shameem died on the spot. Four others were injured.”

Police conducted rescue operations at the scene once they received a report and sent the injured to the hospital.

However, the lawmen have yet to apprehend the driver or the vehicle involved in the accident.
