Six members of a family, including four children, died from electrocution in Purba Goalbari village under the Juri upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Foizur Rahman (50), his wife Siri Begum (45), daughters Samia Begum (15), Sonia (12), and Sabina Akter (9), and son Sayem Uddin (7), residents of Purba Goalbari village of the upazila, according to a BSS report.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Juri Police Station SM Mainuddin said the incident occurred after an electric wire fell on their house due to heavy rain and storm early in the morning.
Injured Sonia was initially taken to the MAG Osmani Hospital in Sylhet before being transferred to Dhaka, where she eventually succumbed to her injuries.
Police recovered the bodies from the spot and handed them over to the family members, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Saroare Alam said.
