The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday arrested an engineer of Roads and Highways Department of Barguna from his office reportedly while taking Tk 1.45 million as bribe.
Acting on a tip off, an ACC team, led by Patuakhali Coordinated District Office Jahangir Alam, conducted the drive and caught Shamsul Shahriar, deputy divisional engineer of Barguna Roads and Highways Department in the act and arrested him around 3:30 pm.
Executive magistrate Yeanur Rahman was present during the drive, according to a UNB report.
Jahangir Alam said engineer Shahriar sanctioned a bill of Tk 60 million of a project in exchange for Tk 1.5 million as bribe.
Based on secret information, the ACC team raided his office and caught him red-handed while taking the bribe, he said.
