Cops kill ‘robber’ in Magura ‘shootout’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Shonpur area of Sadar upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Fakhrul Sheikh, 42, son of Nurul Islam Sheikh, a resident of Jagdal area.

Tariqul Islam, additional superintendent of Magura Police, said being tipped off that a gang of robber was taking preparation for committing robbery near Magura-Jessore road, a team of police conducted a drive around 2 am.

During the engagement, sensing presence the robbers opened fire on policemen, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight, reports UNB.

Fakhrul was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, he said.

The robber was accused in 10 cases including of robbery, he added.
