Customs seize luxury vehicle in Ctg

Customs Intelligence, Chattogram on Wednesday seized a Mercedes-Benz worth Tk 10 million on charge of importing it violating the country’s import policy.

Acting on a tip off, a team of customs intelligence officers raided the importer, Bangladesh Science House, and the unloading agency, Rolex Trading Agency on Wednesday, said the Customs intelligence media.

In papers the importing agency provided information that the luxury vehicle was ‘Made in Japan’, but physical examination by the customs officials revealed that it was ‘Made in Germany’.

It was an old car, the Customs Intelligence media report added. 

According to the Import Policy Order 2015-18, an old car can only be imported from the country where it was manufactured, and importing through a third country is not authorised.

A report has been sent to the Commissioner, Custom House, Chattogram to take legal action in this regard.
