A suspected robber has been killed in an alleged shootout with police in Dhaka’s Gopibag.
Police claimed ‘Shanto’, 20, was a member of a robbery gang that was meeting in the Gopibagh Rail Gate area at around 12:00am on Tuesday.
A police team raided the location after being tipped-off about the meeting, said Nurul Amin, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Wari Zone).
“Encountering police, the robbers began shooting at the force, the team returned fire. Shanto received bullet injuries.”
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died during treatment in the early hours of Tuesday, bdnews24 reports citing the police official.
Two suspects were arrested from the site, he said, adding that two police personnel were also injured in the gunfight.
