A suspect in a child abuse case has been killed in an alleged shootout with RAB in Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria.

The incident occurred at 1 am on Sunday morning in the Ulubania area of Dulahazara Union, said RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Camp Company Commander Major Md Ruhul Amin.

The victim has been identified as local resident Abdur Rahim, 20. A child abuse case had been filed against him four days ago at the Chakaria Police Station.

A RAB team was dispatched to the Ulubania area after receiving information that Rahim was there, Ruhul said.

“The criminals there opened fire on the RAB team. RAB retaliated. The criminals soon fled and one bullet-struck body was recovered from the scene.”

A firearm and three rounds of bullets were found on the scene, Ruhul said.

On March 26, a five-year-old girl was raped at a home in the Ulubania area, the RAB official said. Her parents were not home at the time.

Her father filed a case against their neighbour Abdur Rahim over the incident, reports bdnews24.

Rahim’s body has been sent to the hospital for an autopsy.
