Two to die for killing septuagenarian woman in Chattogram

A Chattogram court on Sunday sentenced two people to death for killing a septuagenarian woman after snatching her gold jewelry in 2018.

The condemned convicts were Md Rubel, 28 and Md Abbas, 34.

Judge of Chattogram Additional Metropolitan and Sessions Judge court-6 Sirajum Munira handed down the punishment, reports UNB.

The court also sentenced them to life imprisonment under another section of the relevant law and fined them Tk 20,000 each.

According to the prosecution, the convicts snatched gold ornaments from Manju Sen, 70 when she went for a morning walk at Neval-2 area in Sadarghat area on May 25, 2018. Later, they strangled her to death.

Getting no whereabouts of Manju, Ratan Kanti, son of the victim, lodged a general diary with Kotwali Police Station on that day.

Police recovered the body of Manju from near an abandoned building in the Neval-2 area.

Police also arrested Rubel and Abbas in this connection.

On October 10, 2018, police submitted chargesheet against three people.

The convicts gave their deposition admitting that they killed the elderly woman after snatching her ear and finger rings and mobile phone.

Rubel was the guard of Manju’s building.

The court also acquitted another person as allegations brought against him could not be proved.
