A massive fire broke out at a slum in Mirpur-7 on Friday evening, according to UNB and several local television channels.
Ershad Hossain, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Central Control Room, said the fire originated from a shanty of the slum at Chalantika intersection on the west side of Al Arabia Mosque around 7:20pm and it soon engulfed the adjoining ones.
On information, 20 firefighting units rushed in to douse the blaze, he said.
However, the firefighters could not bring the fire completely under control till filing of this report around 10:30pm.
They rescued two injured people and took them to hospital.
