'Dhaka-Sylhet highway four-lane upgradation soon'

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the development work to upgrade the Dhaka-Sylhet highway into four-lane will begin soon.

The minister came up with the announcement while responding to a starred question placed by ruling party lawmaker Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker (Naogaon-2) in the Jatiya Sangsad in the city.

He said the Dhaka-Chattogram and the Dhaka-Mymensigh national highways have already been ungraded into four lanes.

The upgradation work, including service lanes in both sites, of Dhaka-Tangail highways into four-lane is now at the concluding stage, Quader said, adding that at present, works continue to update the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga and Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur highways into four-lane.

He said the feasibility study and detailed design on upgradation of the country’s 1,752 kilometre highways have already competed under a project titled, ‘Sub-Regional Road Transport Project Preparatory Facilities’.

The road transport and bridges minister informed the House that there are around 21,595 kilometre of highways across the country under the Road and Highway Department, reports BSS.
