The computer-based interlocking system at Kamalapur Railway Station, which was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, returned to normalcy early Thursday following necessary repair.

The digital signalling system started working again from around 1 am, reports UNB citing a Railways Ministry release.

Trains are now running on schedules, added the release.

The fire originated at the relay room on the first floor of the main building of Kamalapur Railway Station around 6:30pm on Wednesday, damaging the computer-based interlocking system.

Bangladesh Railway officials and members of GRP and Railway Nirapatta Bahini doused the fire within minutes using fire extinguishers.

The damage in the digital signalling system had forced the authorities concerned to manage the arrival and departures of trains at the station manually.

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan visited the station after the fire incident.
