DU postpones ‘Gha’ unit results over question leak allegation

The results of 'Gha' unit admission test for the first-year honours courses of Dhaka University (DU) under the 2018-2019 academic session were postponed on Monday amid allegations of question paper leak.

Hours after issuing a press release on publishing the results tomorrow (Tuesday), the Dhaka University authorities issued another press release saying that publishing of the results was postponed as per the directives of Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman.

The VC said, "An allegation has arisen over DU 'Gha' unit question paper leak. A probe committee has also been formed to look into the matter. We'll take further decision once we get the probe body report."

On Saturday, the university authorities formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the alleged entry tests question leak of 'Gha' unit under the Social Science faculty, reports UNB.

The committee was asked to submit the report within 48 hours.

Fourteen images of handwritten question papers of Dhaka University's 'Gha' unit entry test were spread on social media around 9:17am on Friday, 43 minutes prior to the beginning of the exam.

After scrutinising the images and the original question paper provided at the exam halls, it was found that 72 MCQ questions (19 in Bengali, 17 in English and 36 in general knowledge section) were matched.

On Sunday, law enforcers arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the reported question paper leak of 'Gha' unit admission test from Doyel Chattar area of the university.

DU chief security officer SM Kamrul Ahsan filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station under the Digital Security Act over the matter.

The first-year honours admission test of "Gha" unit of the 2018-19 academic session of Dhaka University was held on Friday. A total of 95,341 candidates appeared in the entry test this year against 1,615 seats under the unit.
