Eid travellers will have ‘tolerable’ sufferings: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Monday said people’s journey to their homes for Eid- Ul- Fitr will not be free of suffering.

However, the suffering will be tolerable, said the minister.

Qauder told it at a discussion on Eid-journey and toll plaza management with stakeholders, according to a BSS report.

The meeting was held at temporary office of Meghna bridge authority at Jamaldi on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Munshiganj district.

Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, said directives have beengiven to repair dilapidated highways by June 8 to lessen the sufferings of homebound people on the occasion of Eid. If required, works will be continued at night side by side with daytime, he added.

The minister also warned of taking stern actions against any irregularities and corruptions relating to toll plaza.

Besides, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations will remain open 24-hour before and after 4 days of Eid-ul Fitr, he said.

Quader also asked authority concerned to stop plying of all type of vehicles, even of VIPs, in wrong side.

Earlier, the minister visited the Gazaria portion of Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

Lawmakers Nasim Osman, Liakat Ali Khoka, Subid Ali Bhuiyan and Nazrul Islam Babu, among others, were present on the occasion.
