Jatiya Party Chairman and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament HM Ershad on Thursday congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the resounding election victory of his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In a congratulatory message to Modi, he also hoped that the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and India will be cemented further with BJP's victory in the 17th Lok Sabha elections.
"BJP's huge victory in the two consecutive Lok Sabha elections will remain as an outstanding example in political history," the Jatiya Party Chairman said.
Ershad, also a former president, hoped that Bangladesh and India will work closely further in ensuring regional peace, development and progress. "The two countries will also work in unison for eliminating terrorism and militancy."
He also greeted the voters of India, reports UNB.
In another messages, Jatiya Party acting Chairman GM Quader, Deputy Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad and Chief Whip Moshiur Rahman Ranga also congratulated Modi.
Narendra Modi has secured another five-year term after winning a landslide general election victory.
Official data from India's Election Commission showed BJP is set to win about 301 of the 543 seats in parliament.
