Female college teacher, bank officer found dead

A female college teacher and a bank officer were found dead at a flat of a two-storey building at Dakkhin Jhiltuli of Faripur on Monday.

Police recovered the bodies of Sajia Begum, 34, an assistant professor of Home Economics at Govt Sarda Sundory Mohila College here and Faruk Hossain, 33, principal officer of Motijheel branch of Sonali Bank Ltd in the capital.

Wife of Sheikh Shahidul Islam, a machinery parts trader and a resident of Dhaka's Sutrapur, Sajia had been residing on the ground floor flat for the last one year.

Faruk Hossain, son of Mizanur Rahman of Burushbagh Mahalla in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district, rented another flat on the ground floor in April last identifying him as the principal officer of Faridpur branch of Sonali Bank. He started living there just 2-3 days ago.

Police detained Sajia's husband Shahidul for interrogation over the incident, reports UNB.

Informed by house owner Nur Islam, a team of police recovered the bodies from the flat around 12:30 am on Monday.

The law enforcers sent those to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said AFM Nasim, officer-in-charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station.

He said although Faruk rented the flat introducing him as the principal officer of Sonali Bank's Faridpur branch, he was actually posted at the bank's Motijheel branch.

"He might have involved in an extramarital affair with college teacher," he said.

Landlord's son David Hasan said he found the door of the bank officer's flat open on his return home around 11:30 pm on Sunday.

He said when he peeped through the door, he found Faruk's body hanging from a fan while that of the teacher lying on the floor in a pool of blood. They later informed police.

Sajia, hailing from Bania Nagar under Sutrapur Police Station in the capital, used to live in her flat with her two sons as her husband resides in Dhaka.

Shahidul came to the flat along with his elder son on Thursday.

Shahidul, who had been in Faridpur for the last two days, said he contacted his wife last at 4pm on Sunday and she told him that she would return home soon from her duty at an HSC examination centre. But, she did not return.

Shahidul said he then informed her colleagues about it and filed a general diary with the Kotwali Police Station.

Jamal Pasha, additional superintendent of Faridpur Police, said the victims used to live in separate flats on the same floor of the house.

"But, it's not clear how they got together in the same flat. We've launched an investigation to unveil the mystery," he said.

Meanwhile, police handed over the bodies to their respective family members.
