Four Biman officials get jail terms for embezzlement

A Dhaka court has sentenced four officials of Bangladesh Biman Airline to different terms jail in an embezzlement cases of Tk 2.85 million.

The convicts are airline salary section former manager Mohammad Jinnah, former accountant Harun-or-Rashid, cash and banking section assistant manager MA Rob and former accountant MAST Chowdhury (Mir Abu Sayed Taifuddin Chowdhury).

Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam handed down the order in presence of three of the convicts on the dock on Monday.

The court awarded seven years jail to Jinnah, Harun and Taifuddin and also fined Tk 2.50 million each, in default; they have to stay in jail one more year, reports UNB.

Besides, MA Rob jailed for five years and fined Tk 1.50 million, in default; he has to stay in jail one more year. While Harun was on the run and the court issued arrest warrant against him.

Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Benzir Ahmed filed the embezzling case against five officials on September 5, 2010. The officials took the money by placing fake bills.

The investigation officer submitted charge sheet against the officials on February 6, 2014.

Court ordered to start the investigation of the case on January 28, 2016.

During the justice procedure, Mir Ajizur Rahman passed away on November 18, 2018. After taking testimony of 14 witnesses, the court handed down the verdict.
