Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said the government has undertaken a plan to construct another unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to provide treatment to additional 5,000 patients.

“We will construct another unit of the DMCH if voted to power in next parliament elections, inshaallah,” she said.

The prime minister said this while distributing ambulances and other transports to government hospitals and educational institutions at her office in the city.

The premier handed over the keys of 33 ambulances, ten water ambulances and 98 jeeps to different upazila health complexes.

She also distributed the keys of 200 motorcycles for giving those to field level statisticians of the health department.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim also spoke on the occasion while state minister for health Zahid Maleque was present.

The prime minister said her government is striving to reach healthcare services at the doorsteps of the people as the number of beds was increased in the existing hospitals with giving support to construct private and specialised hospitals.

Sheikh Hasina said the government would construct multi-storey buildings at upazila levels for government officials. The public works department has already been asked to prepare a plan in this regard, she said.
