Govt takes back Kishoregonj textiles mills

The government has taken back Kishoregonj Textiles Mills Ltd from private sector for violating the major conditions set out during handing over the state-owned enterprise.

The authorities concerned kept the mills closed for a long time after taking over that from the government, reports UNB.

"The prolong closure of the mills caused unemployment of thousands of workers, which in fact negates the main objective of the handing over the mills to the private sector,” said Sayed Chandra Halder, public relations officer of the Textiles and Jute Ministry.

Besides, the mills authorities did not pay the government dues yet.

The owner of the mills took loan from Sonali Bank mortgaging the factory though its final deed (Dalil)  is yet to registered and even prior approval for taking the loan is also yet to take from the government, he said.

The Ministry sent advance notices on March 14 in 2000 and May 22 this year to pay the dues but the mills authority failed to deposit the government’s money.

For these reasons, the government has cancelled the sales deed, which was signed on December 22 in 1994, under Section 39 of Contract Act 1872 (IX of 1872) and took back the textiles mills, all shares and other properties and its royalty on Thursday.

Until further order, management of the factory will be under control of Bangladesh Textiles Mills Corporation
