Govt to keep rice production up

Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzak on Monday said the government will take necessary steps to keep rice production up with producing 2400,000 tonnes more rice in the past five years.

“The government has taken various steps with innovation of stress tolerant rice varieties to keep the crop production up,” said the minister while replying to an important notice placed by treasury bench lawmaker M Sadeque Khan of Dhaka-13 in the House under the rules of procedure-71 with Deputy Speaker M Fazley Rabbi in the chair.

The government is working to implement the vision 2021 and vision 2041 by putting emphasis on agriculture and welfare of the farmers, said the minister, adding that the agriculture is now being appreciated across the world due to time befitting decision of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.

Referring to the country’s ranking 4th position in rice production, Dr Razzak said in the past five years the country’s rice production has increased by more 2400,000 tonnes, Maize production raised by 1700,000 tonnes, potato by 1700,000 tonnes and mango 867,000 tonnes.
