A housewife was allegedly killed by her husband for dowry at Sultanpur Palpara in the town on early Tuesday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Dipika Hazra, wife of Animesh Pal in the area.
Kalpona Hazra, the mother of the deceased, said her son-in-law called them at around 03:00 am and said Dipika had taken her own life.
“We rushed there and found my daughter hanging from the ceiling. She had several wounds on her body,” she added.
Kalpona alleged that her son-in-law used to ask for dowry since they got married last year.
“We’ve given him money on various occasions,” she added.
Animesh could not be reached for comments.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge, Satkhira Sadar Police Station, said they recovered the body and sent it to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
