A good number of youths in the country are still jobless due to their lack of skill, said speakers at a discussion marking the World Youth Skills Day on Monday.

In spite of this, over 2.0 million youths are being added to the job market, they said at the discussion organised by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city.

Even a large number of workforces who migrated to different countries across the globe are not getting high-wage jobs since they are unskilled or semi-skilled, and as a result, they are deprived of high pay and the country is losing huge foreign currencies, the speakers added.

To overcome this situation, they stressed the need for skills development through international- standard trainings for the youths.

Education minister Dipu Moni spoke on the occasion as the chief guest while expatriate welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmed was present as the special guest.

Sajjadul Hassan, secretary of the PMO, chaired the discussion.

Faruque Hossain , executive chairman (secretary in-charge) of NSDA, gave the address of welcome.
