The last parliamentary session for the current government’s term will start on Sunday.

The Working Advisory Committee will sit before the session begins at 4:30 pm to discuss the term length of the session and the agenda.

President Md Abdul Hamid called the 23rd session of the parliament on October 4. According to the constitution, the next parliamentary session must be called within 60 days of the previous one. However, this restriction is not enforced in the 90 days prior to an election.

The countdown to the election begins on October 31. The Election Commission has said that it will announce the schedule for the Eleventh National Parliamentary Elections in the first week of November.

According to the agenda, a Q&A session on the Local Government Ministry, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Prime Minister’s Office, the President’s Office and the Election Commission Secretariat will be held on the first day.

In addition, six bills are to be raised and one is to be passed. The ones that are to be raised are the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution bill, the Bangladesh Shishu Academy bill, the Bangladesh Labour (Revision) bill, the Fisheries Quarantine bill, the Bangladesh Fish Research Institute bill and the Public Sector Work bill. The bill to be passed is the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute bill.

Though it is not on the agenda, the Representation of the People Order (RPO) will have to be amended over the course of this session in order to approve the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the parliamentary polls, bdnews24 reported.

The Election Commission has sent a draft of its EVM amendment to the Law Ministry for scrutiny.

The 22nd session of the Tenth National Parliament began on September 9 and ended on September 20.
