Home Minster Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said there might be conspiracy behind recent arson attacks on the Hindu community in Rangpur.

"The Rangpur incident is the recurrence of Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar one. There might be a plot behind it," said the Minister on Tuesday.

He made remarks while talking to the journalists after a programme at Ramna Police Convention Centre in Dhaka.

"An investigation is going on to unearth the reason behind the mayhem and identify the attackers," the Minister said.

He said police was not able to prevent the incident as the number of attackers was much higher than them.

A man was killed and 20 others, including four policemen, were injured during the clash.

On Tuesday, the Home Minister also visited Thakurbari village in Rangpur.

Talking to reporters in Rangpur, he said the law enforcers have already arrested the mastermind of the arson attack.

"Those responsible for the agitation, no matter who they are, will be brought to justice," the minister said.

On November 10, around 8,000 people from nearby villages marched towards Thakurbari village of Rangpur, a Hindu-dominated village, and vandalised and torched 8-10 houses of the Hindus over a reported Facebook post.

Later, police charged baton, fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the agitating people.

Earlier on Saturday morning, police filed a case against more than 2,000 people over the clash.

Law enforcers also detained 36 people from Gangachhara and Kotwali areas on Friday night in this connection.

On Tuesday, the law enforcers arrested the mastermind, Titu, from Nilphamari whose Facebook post triggered the agitation as it hurt the Muslims’ religious sentiment.
