A student of North South University (NSU), who went missing since Saturday night, was found dead at a canal at Bhaterchar under Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman Payel, 20, son of Golam Mawla of Halisohor area in Chattogram.

Being informed by local people, police recovered the body of Payel from the area in the morning and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue, said Harun or Rashid, officer-in-charge of Gazaria Police Station.

Golam Sarwardi Biplob, a maternal uncle of Payel, said Payel along with his friend Akibur Rahman were boarded on a bus of 'Hanif Paribahan' for going to Dhaka from Chattogram around 10:00pm on Saturday.

When the bus reached near Meghna Bridge area, Payel got down from the bus as it was stuck in a huge tailback.

Later, he failed to board on the bus again as the driver drove the vehicle quickly to get rid of the tailback.

Biplob lodged a general diary with Narayanganj Bandar Police station.

Police suspected that miscreants killed him and dumped the body here, said OC. Bloodstain was found on the face and nose of the body, said police, reports UNB.
