The Home Ministry has banned all outdoor and indoor celebrations on Dec 31, New Year’s Eve, due to the general election.
Voters will go to the polls for the 11th parliamentary election on Dec 30.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan announced the decision at the Secretariat on Sunday, saying that it had been taken due to the proximity of election day and New Year’s Eve.
“No one will be allowed to hold DJ parties, set off fireworks or firecrackers on Dec 31,” he said. “Bars will also be closed from late afternoon on Dec 31 to late afternoon on Jan 1, except at international hotels. People will not be allowed to carry registered firearms during this time.”
Strict security measures are being taken for Christmas on Dec 25, the minister said.
“We are tightening security at the 3,500 churches across the country for Christmas. No fireworks or firecrackers can be set off on Christmas either.”
Security arches will be set up at the church entrances for Christmas, he said.
Special security measures will also be in place for the diplomatic sector, he added, reports bdnews24.com.
