The High Court on Wednesday ruled that no educational institution can charge additional fees from the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidates to allow them to sit for the public examinations.

A bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order after the hearing of a rule in this regard.

The court also directed that the authorities must refund the money to the students within 30 days if any institution collected additional fees from the examinees.

UNB reported the court also ordered the managing committee and governing body of the institution that will fail to refund the money it collected will have to be suspended.

Legal steps will be taken against such institution if any student fails to sit for the examination only due to his or her inability to pay the fees, the court order added.
