An oil tanker anchored at the Dolphin Jetty at the Chattogram Port has caught on fire, reports bdnews24.com.
The fire started at 10:55am on Monday aboard the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation vessel ‘Banglar Jyoti’.
A fire had started on a ship at the Dolphin Jetty, said Omar Faruk, secretary of the port authority. A Navy fire team is working to put out the blaze.
He could not confirm how the fire started or what part of the vessel had caught on fire.
The state-flagged ship had come to the jetty carrying crude oil from the port’s outer anchorage.
Other ships in the area were safely evacuated after the fire started, port officials said.
