One to walk gallows for killing woman in 2015

A Chandpur court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing a woman in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district in 2015.

The condemned convict is Khayer Miah, 32, son of Md Jamal Miah, a resident of Mirpur village in Nabinagar upazila of the district.

The court also fined Khayer TK 10,000, according to a UNB report.

According to the case statement, Jakia Begum, 36, wife of Shahid Bepari of Alimpara of Chandpur district town, went missing since she left her house on December 15, 2015 without informing any one of her family.

Her sister Papia Begum filed a general diary with Chandpur Model Thana on January 2, 2016.

Later, her family members heard that Jakia's body was found in a beel of Nabinagar and Anjuman Mufidul Islam buried the body as the unidentified woman.

After identification, a murder case was filed with Chandpur Model police station by Papia and police arrested Khayer in this connection from Brahmanbaria.

Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan, sub-inspector of the police station, submitted the chargesheet on June 5, 2016.

After examining all the records and 18 witnesses, Chandpur district and sessions judge MdJulfikar Ali Khan handed down the verdict.
