Cumilla police on Saturday arrested a young man in connection with the rape of a schoolgirl at Panchpukuria village in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district.
The detainee was identified as Bhola Chandra Sarkar, son of Nishi Chandra Sarkar of Paharpur village in the upazila, reports UNB.
Officer-in-Charge of Muradnagar Police Station AKM Manzur Alam said Bhola along with his accomplices picked up the girl and took her to nearby woods when the victim was on her way back from a Puja celebration programme in Panchpukuria.
Locals rushed to the spot on hearing the girl's cries for help and caught Bhola violating the victim.
They rescued the girl and handed Bhola over to police, triggering the arrest.
