Awami League Advisory Council Member and Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu Saturday said the party will welcome any alliance of political parties for flourishing democracy in the country.

"We will welcome any alliance formed by political parties for strengthening democracy...But if anyone wants to hurt the country's independence and sovereignty, we will face it politically," he said speaking at discussion on the premises of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Awami Swechchasebak League (ASL) organised the discussion in observance of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal's birthday.

Amu said the political parties can form any coalition ahead of elections and Awami League will welcome them for strengthening democracy.

Recalling the contributions of Sheikh Kamal to the country's sports and cultural arena, Amu said, "The void created in the country's sports and cultural arena following the assassination of Sheikh Kamal would never be filled."

Presided over by ASL President Mollah Md Abu Kowser, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by former lawmaker Dr Mostafa Jalal, ASL Vice-Presidents Afzalur Rahman Babu and Dr Utpal Kumar Sarker and Joint General Secretary Mesbaul Huq Sacchu.
