The quota system for people with disabilities has remained unchanged, said Cabinet Secretary Mohammed Shafiul Alam on Monday.

Alam said it while briefing reporters after the first cabinet meeting of the newly formed government by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after the landslide victory of December 30 election.

The law cannot be changed by administrative order, he said, and the various quotas for people with disabilities ‘will remain as before’.

However, he did not clarify how the quota for people with disabilities will be implemented, according to agency reports.

“The quota is as it was before”, said the cabinet secretary when asked about the percentage quota tyhat was being implemented for people with disabilities.

Earlier, the cabinet approved the ‘Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act 2013’ act and the ‘Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2015’ at its maiden meeting.
