JHENIDAH, Nov 03: The Islamic Foundation (IF) here faces acute space shortage hampering its activities including the serene reading environment.
The institution runs its activities at a rented building near Jhenidah Old DC Court premises.
But the office building here does not have sufficient space. Its rooms are not spacious enough to accommodate the furniture and necessary materials including the reading ones.
Md Bashir Uddin, a reader of IF district library in Jhenidah said, "A good number of regular readers miss suitable reading environment here. They are not provided with enough space to read the materials comfortably."
"The absence of a roomy place compels us to read sitting and standing on the verandah. This adverse situation deprives the visitors of reading pleasure," Bashir Uddin added.
Published by Islamic Foundation, lots of books are intended to be sold through its local offices, sources said.
A good number of books were recently sent to its Jhenidah district office to be displayed and sold. However, for lack of accommodation in small library room, the books are kept on its floor.
Sources added books of Islamic Foundation have high demand. People are much interested to see and buy them.
Sales of books by IF, Jhenidah are not bad. However, they could reach more buyers if they were displayed properly.
Deputy Director of IF, Jhenidah Md. Abdul Hamid said, "It is impossible on our part to keep books on display for visitors. If we had got any new building of our own, our service to the society would have boosted significantly."
Lack of sufficient space in the office building hampered different national programmes held there, he added.
"The programmes here at our office cannot draw expected visitors due to space crisis," said the official.
"Besides, we feel uneasy when we bring government high officials to this congested office building to attend national programmes,'' he said.
"We arrange programmes at hired places but that does not let our institution get recognised among the people," the DD further added.
