‘Rivals’ stab Sramik League leader dead in Gazipur

A local leader of Sramik League was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals at Karaitala in Gazipur municipality area on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Hossain, organising secretary of Sreepur municipality unit Sramik League.

Quoting family members, police said a group of young men including Sumon, Babul intercepted Faruk while he was going to his workplace around 9 am and took him to Karail where they stabbed him indiscriminately around 10 am in front of other people, leaving him injured.

They also severed the two hands of Faruk.

Later, he was taken to Shreepur upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.

Jabedul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station, said the motive behind the murder could not be known yet.

Police are trying to nab the culprits, said the OC.
