The second Gumti and Meghna bridges will be opened to traffic on Saturday (May 25) to mitigate the suffering of commuters.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate them through video conferencing, said Gumti Bridge project Manager Shawkat Ahmed Majumdar.
Once in operation, the 930-metre Meghna and 1,410-metre Gumti bridges are expected to provide relief to commuters on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
Sources at Roads and Highways Department said that some 25,000 vehicles use the road every day, reports UNB.
Sixty per cent of them are using the highway for commercial purposes while the rest are carrying passengers.
