Prominent photographer Shahidul Alam has secured bail from the High Court in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty passed the order after hearing on a rule on Thursday, report bdnews24.com and UNB.

Barrister Sara Hossain and Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua stood for Shahidul Alam.

Sara Hossain said the court granted Shahidul Alam bail considering his physical condition and there is no restriction on his freedom from jail.

Shahidul Alam was arrested from Dhanmondi on August 5 and the case was filed against him with Ramna Police Station on August 6.

The case was filed for spreading 'propaganda through his Facebook account' during the student movement demanding safe roads.

Shahidul's lawyers appealed to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court on August 14 when the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court rejected his first bail petition.

The lawyers sought to bring the hearing date forward when the judge scheduled September 11 for the hearing of the bail plea.

They again appealed for interim bail for Shahidul on August 26 when the court declined to bring the date forward.

Lawyers went to the High Court on August 28, when the court declined to hear the bail petition.

Shahidul is the founder of the Drik Gallery, Pathshala and the South-Asian Media Institute.
