Sunamganj man to walk gallows for murder

A court in Sunamganj on Wednesday sentenced a man to death and another person to life term imprisonment for killing a youth in the district town in 2016.

The convict is Md Badal Miah, son of Pakhi Miah, a resident of Telipara village in Dharmapasha upazila while the lifer is Shafiq Miah, son of late Abdul Mannan, a resident of Hasannagar village, reports UNB.

The court also fined Badal Tk 20,000.

According to the prosecution, when three young men, including Badal, were roaming with a girl in a religious mahfil at Maizbari village in Sadar upazila on January 10, 2016 one Yakub of the area obstructed them.

Being obstructed Badal got furious and attacked Yakub while he was returning home from the mahfil, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was rushed to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Yakub's brother Hazrat Ali filed a case with Sadar Police Station against Badal, Shafiq and Md Jakir Hossain.

After examining all the records and witnesses, additional sessions judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun handed down the verdict acquitting Jakir.
