UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Mia Seppo has expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the tragic fire in Old Dhaka that claimed 67 lives.
On behalf of the UN in Bangladesh, she wished the injured a quick recovery and recognised the effort of the local authorities in responding to the blaze.
India, the United Sates, the United Kingdom, Pakistan and others also expressed profound shock at the loss of lives in the Chawkbazar fire.
"India is saddened by the loss of lives as a result of tragic fire in Dhaka on February 20. We offer our deepest condolences to relatives of those affected by the accident. As a close neighbour and partner, we stand by the people and the government of Bangladesh in this hour of grief," said the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
The United States Embassy in Dhaka offered their heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the fire in Chawkbazar.
"Our prayers are with the families of those injured and lost and to all who mourn across the great nation of Bangladesh," reads a post shared by the US Embassy on its official Facebook page.
The government and people of Pakistan expressed deep condolences, according to Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"We express deep sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims and wish speedy recovery of those injured in the incident," reads a press release of the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sixty-seven people were killed and around 41 others injured in a devastating fire in the city's Chawkbazar area on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
