The United States said their efforts remain focused on steps that will improve the situation for Rohingyas and all people in Myanmar and as well as promote accountability for those who were responsible for atrocities.

"That's something we're continuing to focus on," said Deputy Spokesperson at US Department of State Robert Palladino at a press briefing in Washington, DC on Tuesday.

The US efforts are particularly aimed at easing sufferings and addressing some of the root causes of these conflicts, said Palladino, reports UNB.

The Deputy Spokesperson said they urge for greater humanitarian access inside Myanmar which is something that they remain very much focused on. "We've been - and I'll leave it at that."

Responding to a question, Palladino said they are open to new information. "And so the Vice President has been clear as well. Violence and persecution by the military and vigilantes that drove all these people out is without excuse."

He said the Department of State last year concluded that horrific atrocities had taken place in Myanmar's northern Rakhine State. "Those atrocities constituted ethnic cleansing. That conclusion of ethnic cleansing, to your question, is in no way prejudices any potential further analysis on whether mass atrocities have taken place, including genocide or crimes against humanity."

The Deputy Spokesperson said the United States will remain focused on steps that will improve the lot of the refugees as well as all the people of Myanmar and to hold those accountable that are responsible.
