IOM cancels top official’s press meet on Rohingya Crisis

International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Agency, in a press statement on Tuesday night cancelled the scheduled press meet of its visiting top official on Rohingya crisis citing an ‘unavoidable circumstance.’

The statement signed by Shirin Akhter, National Communication Officer of IOM Bangladesh Mission, read, “We have to cancel the press meet tomorrow (Wednesday) for an unavoidable circumstance. Our apologies for this unintentional inconvenience. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to your heartiest support as always.”

William Lacy Swing, Director General of IOM, is currently visiting Bangladesh to observe the current humanitarian crisis in Cox’s Bazar.

Following his visit, Mr. Swing was scheduled to meet the press in Dhaka to exchange views on the enormity of the humanitarian needs of Rohingyas and the UN response to address the urgent needs of greater humanitarian support.

The press meet was planned at 5pm in the Kuakata Hall of Hotel La Meridian in Dhaka.
