Fighting great odds and overcoming seemingly insufferable obstacles, an SSC examinee secured a GPA of 3.61 in his exams writing with his feet as he has been without his arms since birth.

Md Omar Faruk Sumon, son of Mujibur Rahman of Uttar Shahpara in Sherpur municipality area, appeared in his SSC exams from Sherpur DJ High School this year. He wants to go for higher education and aspires to become a high government officer.

During visit on Monday, one correspondent found Sumon's father Mujibur works as a decorator and his mother who is a housewife. He has two brothers and two sisters. Among them, Sumon is the youngest one. The two sisters got married off.

One of his brothers runs a small business in the village. His father has to pay the cost of study with great difficulty.

Sumon said, "I am very happy after hearing my result in SSC examination. I have always been interested in studies since childhood. My parents helped me with finances amid poverty. Now I will apply to a college and after that to a university. I want to be a high government officer after completing my education."

Mother Fatema Begum shares the struggle to make her son continue studying, but speaks of trying to support Sumon in every endeavour he faces. She is very proud of her son and his achievements.
