Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel has rejected criticisms of the current standard of education in Bangladesh.

Speaking at an event in Chattogram on Saturday, Nowfel said, "The questions raised about the quality of education are wide of the mark. It maybe that people have higher expectations.”

The deputy minister pointed to the country's GDP growth to support his view that the education standards are up to par, according to bdnews24.com.

“If the quality wasn't good, human resources wouldn't be created as well as they have been in the country. That’s why GDP is increasing,” said Nowfel.

On the contrary, the quality of education is largely dependent on teachers and school authorities, he explained.

Speaking about the government's investment in the education sector, he said, "The prime minister has allocated adequate investment in the sector. Moreover, technical training is also a point of emphasis now. She has instructed the authorities to set up technical schools in every Upazila. "

Nowfel, a relative newcomer to the political arena, also promised to deliver on his pledges.

"We don't want to make a false promise. Many people think that politicians only deliver rhetoric. But that's not the case. We want to solve problems. I want to make good on my promises.”
